2012 Special Events

Saturday 9/8:

10:00 AM to Noon: Second Saturday Walking Tour. Henry Duffy, curator of the Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site in Cornish, NH, will lead a walking tour focusing on Saint-Gaudens' work in Springfield, especially the Puritan statue in Merrick Park. The tour is held rain or shine. Admission is $5.00 per person or free for AQCA or Springfield Museums' members. Purchase tickets at the Museums Welcome Center on Edwards St. the day of the tour.

10:00 AM to 4:00 PM: Children's Carnival: Free games and prizes in a Carnival atmosphere will be offered for kids of all ages! Come take advantage of this great opportunity to get to know what other art and culture is available and happening in Apremont triangle.  The Pulse Gallery located at 11 Pearl Street, 2nd Floor Suite 235 will be open for viewing as well as the Pulse Studio in Suite 228 if you're inspired by all the art and would like an outlet to express your own creativity.

1:00 to 4:00 PM: Home Tour. Visit several homes on Mattoon and Elliot Streets, including the rectory of Saint Michael's Cathedral. Get an intimate glimpse into the way people live in historic homes today. Buy tickets at the festival or in advance from the Springfield Preservation Trust or at Flowers, Flowers or the Flower Box in  Springfield. $15.00 per person in advance, $20.00 day of tour.

1:00 to 5:00 PM: Film Screening. Watch a thirty minute documentary film about the founding of the Quadrangle-Matoon Historic District. The movie features old photos, interviews with residents past and present and interesting historical information. The film was made by Apremont Productions of Springfield. Film will be screened on a loop at the City Church at 111 Chestnut Street.


Sunday 9/9:

11:00 AM to 2:00 PM: Self-guided garden tour. Visit several hidden gardens on Mattoon Street. Who knew there were green oases tucked behind all these brick houses? See them for yourself -- you'll be amazed and refreshed. Tickets are $5.00 per person or free for those who went on the Home Tour on Saturday and kept their ticket.

2:00 PM: Coloring Contest winners announced. Winners in all age groups of the coloring contest will be announced at 2:00PM at the Festival Information table.
